Ben is a maker who believes in acting on promising, credible ideas, no matter how great or how small. His purpose is human-centred design and to build momentum using the mindset of a prototyper.
By exercising the power of shared knowledge, empathy and collaboration, Ben brings concepts to life. He draws on his practical, ‘hands on’ experience and craftsmanship to illustrate, communicate and build on ideas.
Ben has worked in the design industry and management for more than 15 years. He specialises in design thinking, innovation strategy, design coaching, industrial design, new product development and capability development.
As well as coaching and guiding a large industry body in systems design, Ben has also utilised key design thinking skills in empathy to develop award-winning and commercially successful user-centred products for international markets.
Ben’s background is in industrial design, a discipline that has given him a foundation of end-to-end experience; from business plan to concept, then on to development and manufacturing. Using design thinking methodology, he has been pivotal in the transformation of many businesses. He is also a coach with NZTE’s Better by Design programme, where he has run many design thinking workshops with a variety of public and private sector clients.
Ben is excited by new ideas and enjoys the pace of change that comes with new opportunities.
