EthiopiaNebiyu is a development worker with an educational background in social work and years of work experience in community development, communication for development, and now in Human-centered design. He believes in the capability of communities to identify, design, and lead their development objectives. As a designer, he positions himself as a facilitator of communication and development, a channel for voices to be heard, and a thinker for devising systems-level solutions.
Nebiyu has more than 8 years of work experience in field research, community development, and communications for development. In his previous roles, Nebiyu worked with various organizations, including government agencies, non-profit organizations, and private sector companies.
He has developed experience working on various projects, from grassroots organizations in community health and community development outreaches to implementing communication and advocacy campaigns for policy and strategy change. He is also skilled in using research and data to track his work’s impact and identify new intervention opportunities.
At ThinkPlace, Nebiyu has used participatory research tools to identify underlying drivers of behavior. Nebiyu has also conducted an in-depth analysis of predominant drivers influencing data use behaviors by health service providers, health information technicians, and performance review teams. Nebiyu is particularly interested in using human-centered design to promote local and regional development. He believes that human-centered design can help communities identify and solve their problems, design and implement effective and sustainable solutions, and build a better future for all.
Nebiyu is pursuing a Master’s degree in Local and Regional Development Studies, a multi-disciplinary approach to development to deepen his knowledge and skills in solving systems-level problems.
